Progress and records

Progress shows your volume, your records with an estimated 1RM, and what you train most. Premium adds main lifts, charts per exercise, workout comparisons and heart rate cards.

Where to find it

  1. Progress

You can also open your records from the “Records” card on the Dashboard. “Customize progress” at the top right lets you arrange the cards.

“Compare workouts” in Setonomy: Upper Body Pull on Wed, 10/21 vs. Wed, 10/14, volume +3%, with the same exercises and their change below
Two workouts side by side, exercise by exercise (with Premium).

Tiles and cards

At the top are four fixed tiles: “Volume · 4 weeks” compared with the four weeks before, “Records,” “Most trained” and “Workouts · 30 days.” Below are cards you arrange and hide with “Customize progress”: “Muscle map,” “Main lifts,” “Compare workouts,” “Volume per workout,” three heart rate cards and “Exercise over time.”

“Most trained” ranks your exercises by sets, reps or volume.

Records and 1RM

From every hard set, Setonomy estimates your 1RM, the weight for a single rep: weight × (1 + (reps + reps in reserve) / 30), where reps in reserve is 10 − RPE. One rep at RPE 10 counts as the weight itself, is marked “lifted” and beats any estimate.

A set counts toward your records when it's checked off, has a weight, and was done at RPE 8.5 or higher with fewer than 10 reps. Any checked-off set at RPE 8.5 or higher, even with 10 or more reps, keeps the later sets of the same exercise in the same workout from counting. Timed exercises have no records. This needs “Use target RPE” turned on; otherwise the list shows “Go to RPE settings.” The 1RM calculator works through a single set with the same formula.

The records list

It has the sections “Pinned,” “Records” and “No value yet.” “now” is your current 1RM: recent workouts count more, and it can go down too. If you know your max, enter it with “Log 1RM” and a date; it counts like one rep at RPE 10.

With Premium

These cards show their values with Premium. Without it, “Main lifts,” “Exercise over time” and the heart rate cards show a blurred preview with “Your data, visible with Premium,” and “Compare workouts” shows the workouts blurred; a tap opens the purchase page. For training volume, the tile and the arrow open the purchase page directly.

  • Main lifts: your five most frequent exercises, each with a chart over the last 10 workouts.
  • Exercise over time: an exercise's weight or 1RM over 30 days, 1 year or all time.
  • Compare workouts: two workouts side by side, exercise by exercise.
  • Training volume: your volume over time, from the tile or the “Volume per workout” card.
  • Heart rate cards: “Fitness at the same load,” “Time in heart rate zones” and “Cardiovascular load,” when Setonomy measures your heart rate during workouts (Apple Health).
  • Pin records: up to five; they then appear on the Dashboard.

Premium

Partly Premium. The four tiles, the muscle map by group, “Volume per workout,” “Most trained,” the records list with your own 1RM, and customizing are free. Premium covers what's listed above under “With Premium” (Premium).

Frequently asked questions

Why don't I have any records?

Turn on “Use target RPE” under Settings → Effort (RPE). A record needs a checked-off set at RPE 8.5 or higher with fewer than 10 reps.

How does Setonomy estimate my 1RM?

Weight × (1 + (reps + 10 − RPE) / 30). One rep at RPE 10 is the weight itself.

Why doesn't my heavy set replace my old single?

A lifted single at RPE 10 beats any estimate, even a higher one.

Can I enter my known max?

Yes, for free: with “Log 1RM” and the date.

How many records can I pin?

Up to five, with Premium.
