Setonomy as a Hevy alternative

Hevy is one of the best-known workout trackers for iPhone[1]. If you're looking for an alternative, here are both apps side by side: what they cost, what you get for free and where your data lives. Setonomy is new on the App Store; where Hevy offers more, it says so here too.

When Setonomy fits

  • No account: You don't want to sign in, and your workouts, history and body weight should stay on your iPhone. You can back them up to a file, password-protected if you like (Backup and privacy).
  • Much of it free: training with suggestions, your own workouts, your whole history, body weight, Apple Health and backup don't need Premium (Premium).
  • 3D animations: You want to see 520+ exercises as 3D animations, with target and assisting muscles (Exercises).
  • iPhone only: You train with your iPhone and don't need a Watch app.

When Hevy fits

  • More devices: You want to use an Apple Watch, iPad or Android[1][2].
  • Train together: You want to follow friends, see their workouts in your feed and compare stats[1].
  • Lower price: Hevy Pro costs less than Setonomy Premium and is also available as a one-time lifetime purchase[1].
  • Established: You want an app with lots of ratings[1]; Setonomy is new on the App Store.

Switching from Hevy

Setonomy doesn't import data from Hevy; your history starts fresh. You set up your workouts again in Setonomy, or let it suggest a training plan from a short questionnaire.
